Plane Picking of Elongate Objects
Scope
This service is designed for applications which require the amount of training to be minimal, e.g., because there is a very large of variants (possibly with unknown parameters) to be processed. Forgoing training comes at the prices of having to make prior assumptions on the geometry of the objects being processed by the service. These are concretely that
- the objects have some elongate shape, where one lateral dimension is significantly longer than the other,
- the object appears in planar layers with only a single physical state (i.e., it cannot be upside down),
- only a single type of object is supported (i.e., sorting is not possible).
A good example are the steel rods in the video below, packed into a box in several layers of arbitrary orientation, and which thanks to rotational symmetry have no particular up- or down-side.
